THE WHEAT MARKET.
_ , By Telegraph—.Press Association. AUCKLAND, October 22. According to Mr Peter Virtue, of the Northern Roller Milling Company, the present shortage in the world's wheat supply is not likely to be relieved for a considerable time owing to the failure of certain countries' crops, the drought in Australia and other factors. He is of opinion that the price of wheat and consequently of bread are likely to reir.ain unchanged until next October. Regarding New Zealand's new season's wheat he does not think that it will open at less than 5s 6d if at that price, if the world's markets remain as they are. In the fa:e of this rather gloomy outlook it is some compensation to know that Mr Virtue does not think. it likely that bread will become any dearer than it is at present. With the high price of flour and forage, and the extra amount of money on his books, the baker, Mr Virtue thinks, must be having a bad time.
