Thursday

A number of local bowlers were on the green this afternoon practising. The opening of the season will probably take place on Thursday afternoon next.

The fortnightly meeting of the Heart of Oak Lodge 1.0.0.F.,M.U., was held in the Foresters' Hall, last evening. Theie was a large attendance oE members. Bio. Lamb, N.G., occupied the chair. Routine business was transacted. After the meeting a card tournament was played against the Loyal Unity Lodge, Featheiston, resulting in a win for the latter. Captain Lumley presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Carterton Fire Brigade, held in the Brigade Station, last evening. A commun:cition was raceived from the Secretary of the United Fire Brigades' Association drawing the Brigade's attention to clause 4 of the Fire Brigades Act Amending Bill, and asking the Brigade to endeavour to oppose the passing of the clause. The Secretary was instructed to communicate with the member for the district on the matter. It was decided to purchase a piano for the social room, and a levy of Is per week per member was struck to pay for tho instrument.
