THE CONVEYANCE OF MAILS.
Received October 15, 1.10 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 14. Hitherto the Commonwealth postal administration has paid various railway adminstrations £225,000 per annum for the conveyance of mails. x The Commissioners now demand an increase of £145,000. The Postal Department refuses to pay it. A conference will open to-morrow to endeavour to adjust the matter.
BRITISH RIFLE TEAM. Received October 15, 1.10 a.m. SYDNEY. October 14. The British rifle team was welcomed by the Premier. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. Received October 15, 1.10 a.m. SYDNEY, October 14. At the wool sales to-day 10,000 bales were catalogued. Competition, although satisfactory, was rot so keen as last week. There was little alteration in prices, but there was a;i easier tendency.
