A TRAGIC AFFAIR,
BATHER SEIZED BY A SHARK
Received October 14, 10.2 a.m. SYDNEY, October 14. A exciting incident with a tragic side to it, is reported from Newcastle. A man named Nolan was in the surf, bathing, when he was seized by a shark. The unfortunate fellow had his left arm mangled. Another swimmer rescu-d Nolan, who became unconscious before he reached the shore.
THE WRECK OF THE AAGOT. Received October 14, 9.50 a.m. ADELAIDE, October 14. The Aagot, which went ashore ori the west point of Wauraltee Island, is a total wreck. The bottom has apparently been knocked out of her. She lies within 100 yards of the shore. The crew landed without difficulty. The captain states that he thought she was eight miles off the island when she struck.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Received October 14, 9.56 a.m. * MELBOURNE, October 14. The cruiser Psyche, bound from Sydney to Adelaide, experienced a rough passage, and had to put into Portland for tha repair of a condenser. One of the engineers fell down in the engine-room and injuied his heaj severely. During delirium which followed, he cut his throat. The wound is not a fatal one, and the patient is on a fair way to recjvery.
