CASTLEPOINT COUNTY.
The ordinary meeting of the Castlepoint County Council was held on Saturday last. There were present: Councillors Speedy (chairman), I.angdon, Bennett, Richardson, Ryder, Innes and Foreman. A letter was received from the Premier with copy of proclamation changing the name of the colony to that of Dominion and stating that a medal would be struck to commemorate the event. The Secretary of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board made a claim for tv^contributions due to the Board for for the treatment of infectious diseases, The Waimakariri Water Supply Board \vrote asking the Council to co-operate in opposing the Electoral Empowering Bill now being discussed in the House. The Treasury wrote advising payment of a Government grant of £l5O for (he Masterton-Tinui Road. A letter was received from the Returning Officer stating that the poll for a special loan of £2,000 had been c.uTi?d, 70 voting for the proposal, and 40 against it. Mr Bartholomew wrote applying \ for repairs to be made to the road j inear his house at the Taipos. Clerk of the Masterton forwarded a copy of proposed by-laws to regulate motcr-car traffic. | It was decided to comply with the request of.the Waimakariri Water Supply Board: and also to agree to the nropcsed by-laws from the Masterton County Council regulating motor-car traffic, and to suggest that the word car be deleted, and that the speed at which they shall travel on hilly roads and aide-cuttings shall not be more than at the rate of ten to twelve miles per hour. It was decided that a sample of the limestone from Langdale be sent down and broken by the stone-crusher in Carterton with a view of testing its quality as road metal. It was resolved that the Chairman and Clerk should be present when the stone is being broken, and should it trxn out satisfa-torily an estimate of tiyrcost of breaking and carting be laid before a special meeting of the Council to be held on the 12th October. The Clerk was directed to make an application for the loan of £2,000 (authorised). The Chairman informed, the Council that it was agreed after last meeting to secure the freehold of Mrs Cox's section in Tinai for the purpose of storing the plant and . keeping the horse teams in when in Tinui. The Council confirmed the action of the Chairman and Councillor Ryder in securing the property at £250. Accounts amounting to £lB6 5s 4d were examined and passed for payment.
