DOMINION DAY.
The following hours will be observed at the Masterton Post Office on Dominion Day:— Post Office—A close holiday will be observed. All mails usually despatched on this day will be closed to connect with early trains and coaches up to 8 a.m. A delivery of all correspondence will be made over the Post Office counter on Wednesday, the 25th September, between 7 and 8 p.m. Telegraph Office—Open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. to midn'ght. Telegrams for despatch after 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to be presented at back door of Telegraph Office. Telephone Exchange Open as usual, viz., 9 a.m. to 12 midnight continuously.

When his Excellency the Governorreads the proclamation at Parliament Buildings, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, about 50 officers and men from H.M.S. Challenger will be present and form part of the guard of honour During the afternoon 150 men from the warship will be present at the review at Newtown Park. On the platform at the Town Hall in the evening, will be his Excellency the Governor and Lady Piunket, the Prime- Minister and Lady Ward, members of th2 Government, members of the Council of Defence, naval officers, judges of the Supreme Court and foreign consuls, and in front will be seats for members of Parliament and their wives, members of the City Council and Harbour Beard, and officers of the Battalion. a GISBORNE, September 24.
No arrangements are yet made for celebrating Dominion Day. There is little prospect of getting a muster of volunteers to be present at the reading of the proclamation. A memorial to the late Mrs Sievewright will be unveiled during tne day. BLENHEIM, September 24.
The Retailers' Association has decided .not to close the shops next Thursday. Shops will be closed, however, for one hour from eleven till noon to enable the people to hear the proclamation read. The general opinion is that the Government should fix such holidays for the day of the ordinary weekly half-holiday. HASTINGS, September 24.
A meeting, held last night, convened by the Mayor, resolved that Sir William Russell be asked to deliver an address of a patriotic nature on Dominion Day, and the officers of Volunteers, Fire Brigade, Band, Friendly Societies, and School Cadets, together with the Mayor and the head schoolmaster,, were appointed to arrange the order of ceremonies. A torchlight procession will be held in the evening. The Master Bakers' Association held a meeting, yesterday, and resolved no 1 ; to observe the holiday.
