INSPECTION OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES.
(From Our Parliamentary Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Thursday.
In the House of Representatives Mr Buddo asked the Government whether they will look into the matter of fees charged for inspection of weights and measures, with a view to remitting the 10s travelling expenses charged by the Inspector to each shopkeeper in a town where a number of tradesmen combine to have their weights and measures inspected on one day; also the question of the return to the owner of unsatisfactory scales and weights where it is proved to the satisfaction of the Inspector that the discrepancy is due to ordinary cleaning operations? The Premier replied that it is proposed to remit the charge of 10s for travelling expenses, except in special cases. The question of returning forfeited weights and measures will be considered in the event of legislation on the subject being introduced at any time.
