, . ORDINARY MEETING. J ' V The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held, Jast evening, there being present:— " The** Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), Crs J. Elliott, F. W. Temple. A. Haughey, W. Morris, W. Pragnell, J. C. Ewington, J. Prentice and J. Yarr. ~ Mr J. Bulpitt wrote asking the Council to remove the trees from the front of his sections in Dixon Street, as he was about to build. The matter was referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. A letter was received from Mr C. G. Monro, complaining of the water 'rom a stream flooding the front of his property in South Road, after heavy rain, and urging the Council to minimise the inconvenience in connection therewith, by putting a larger culvert in the stream. The letter was referred to the Works Committee with power to act. Mr E. Exell wrote refusing to give the necessary portion of his land for the widening of Makora
Street unless he was compensated with a new picket fence. The letter held over until the question of % widening Makora Street was being further considered. Mr W. H. Winter wrote asking for the extension cf the high pressure ■water supply to a new house he was building in High Street, about three chains beyond the eni of the present mains. Mr F. C. Winter made a similar application in respect of the same house. The letters were referred to the Works Committee. The District Engineer of Railways wrote agreeing to allow the Council to take the sewer through the railway property between Villa and Bentley Streets, provided the Council will enter into the usual deed of agreement at a pepper-corn rental. The District Engineer also wrote informing the Council that the widening of Villa Street might now be .. gone on with. The first letter was referred to the Works Committee. The Masterton County Council wrote forwarding a copy of the motor traffic by-laws adopted by them and asking the Council to consider the same and adopt them if they saw fit. The matter-was referred to the By-, laws Committee. The Mayor and Town C'erk were empowered to sign the deeds with sg| J. Macara in connection with the of the latter's land for the widening of Di: on Street. The Mayor and Cr Haughey were empowered to obtain legal advice and" further consider the position of Messrs McMuilen Bros.. :n respect of the Bunny's Street contract. It was resolved to take up an addi • tional £2,000 under schedules A and B ot the £25,000 loan. On the motion of Cr Morris, it was decided to cad the County Council's attention to the state of the decking of the first Waipoua Bridge, and ask that something might be done to improve matters. It was decided to spread a few loads of gravel in Johnstone Street.
