HOUSEHOLD COAL.

PRICE CHARGED AT THE GASWORKS. Messrs Staines, Collie and Vibert waited on the Borough Gas and Finance Committee, last evening, with reference to the price charged at the Gasworks for household coal. They stated that the present price (40s) was too low, and they could not compete. Coal cost them 35s in their yards, and there was not sufficient margin when it was sold at 40s to allow a profit after bagging, delivering, etn. They had no objection to coal being sold at 40s without cartage. After consideration the Committee decided to recommend the Council to charge cartage on coal in future at the following rates: —Five cwt., Is; half, a ton, Is 6d; one ton, 2s.
