The Bank of Australasia has declared a dividend of 12 per cent, and a bonus of 8s per share; £IOO,OOO has been added to the Reserve Fund, and £15,000 to the Premises Account; £17,324 has been carried forward. RAND UNEMPLOYED. Received September 6, 9.51 p.m. PRETORIA, Septembar 6. There are still 800 unemployed on the Rand though the miies are absorbing 50 men weekly. The Government withdraw the proclamation with regard to the' Waterberg tin fields, fearing that it will cause bloodshed. Fearing that the fields will fall into the hands of capitalists, the Government propose to locate the mineralised areas placing the unemployed there. Replying to General Botha, Mr J. Carruthers, Premier of New South Wales, sta'es that he is able to place 200 Rand unemployed.

A YACHT SINKS. Received September 6, 7.36 a.m. LONDON, September 5. The yacht Eros, belonging to Mr Houston, M.P., sank in the Channel after colliding with a collier. Lord Byron, who Mr Housguest, was asleep in his cabin, and was nearly drowned. He only escaped by climbing over the collier's bows. MEAT FOR WAR OFFICE. A WAR OFFICE ORDER FOR HORSESHOES.

Received 6, 3.27 a.m. LONDON, September 5. The Secretary for War, the Right Hon. R. B. Ilaldane. ordered army horseshoes from America, after several British firms had installed special plant to coue with orders. One firm has been compelled to dismiss twenty (?) workmen. (The War Office has ordered one hundred thousand pairs of horseshoes from America. Mr Haldmie has stated that the contract is satisfactory, both as regards the price and the efficiency of the goods.) A SUBMARINE. Received September 6, 8.27 a.m. LONDON, September 5. A twin-screw submarine in course of construction at Barrow-in-Furness has two torpedo tubes forward and one aft. (Last year eleven submai'ines were ordered by the British Navy.) A NEW STEAMER. Received September 6, 8.27 a.m. LONDON, September 5. The Adelaide Steamship Company's Urilla has been launched at Middlesboro.
