INFANT LIFE PROTECTION.
(By Telegraph—Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, September 6. In the Legislative Council, this afternoon, the debate on the Infant Life Protection Bill was continued by the Hon. J. Marshall, and the only feature was an attack by the Hon. J. Barr (Canterbury) upon the medical profession. The Hon. Mr Barr said that their charges were excessive and indiscriniinating, and resulted in indecision on the part of labouring men to call in a doctor, which in turn resulted in considerably adding to the mortuary bill. Hon. T. K. Macdonald (Wellington) took up the cudgels on behalf of the medical profession, and said that ther«-.were no more self-sacrificing men in the community than the medical men. The debate was adjourned. The Council then adjourned until Wednesday next.
