THE NEW SAN FRANCISCO SERVICE.

Cabled advice has been received in Wellington of the depnrture of the Foreric from San Francisco for Auckland. This vessel inaugurated _ the Dew service between San Francisco, Auckland, and Sydney. The foreric is the first vessel which Weir and Co. have placed in HSflpnhing. She is a cargo vessel with a speed of about 10 or 11 knots, and is expected to reach Auckland ir, 25 days. Other steamers of the same class will be despatched from San Francisco at regular intervals. Each will call at Samoa. The New Zealand Post Office authorities have not been advised that the Foreric is carrying mails. As mails from Vancouver are delivered in Auckland in 22 days it is questionable whether the new service from San Francisco will be used for mail purposes.
