MASTERTON TROTTING CLUB.
1 ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the Masterton Trotting Club was held in the Club Hotel last evening. The President, Mr W. D. Watson, occupied the chair, and there were about 12 others present. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts for the year had been £348 lis 2d (totalisator £152 17s lid, nominations £6l ss, acceptances £47 ss, gates £23 ss, subscriptions £22, cards £ll 10s Sd), and the expenditure £323 13s (stakes £2OO, Government tax on totalisator £26 16s Id, printing and advertising £2O 19s 6sd, secretary £2O, rent of showgrounds £10), leaving a credit balance of £24 18s 2d, including a balance of £lB 15s 7d brought forward from last year.
The balance-sheet was adopted on the motion of Mr F. Hill, seconded by Mr T. W.'Miller.
A letter was received from Mr J. H. Pollock suggesting that the club should send a delegate to attend a conference of the Trotting Clubs in the Wellington Province at Grey town with a view to the clubs fixing dates for their trotting meetings in close proximity to each other. The general opinion of the meeting was that the date for the Masterton trotting meeting was a satisfactory one, and it would be inadvisable to alter it.
.It was eventually decided, on the motion of Mi" Hill, to thank Mr Pollock for his suggestion, but the club regretted that it could not change its present date. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr W. D. Watson; Vice-Presidents, Messrs F. Hill, J. O'Meara, C. H. Smith, J. Cress; Timekeeper, Mr F. Hill; Judge, Mr C. H. Smith; Handicapper, Mr J. H. Pollock; Clerk of Course, Mr H. Welch; Clerk of Scales, Mr A. Snodgrass; Auditor, Mr G. W. Sellar; Starter, Mr A. Cometti; Stewards, Messrs F. Buick, W. H. Buick, W. Cooper, W. Cragg, J. Dixon, F. E. Dorset, R. J. Hodgins, W. lorns, T. W. Miller, D. McNair, C. A. Pownali, A. Snodgrass, W. Welch, W. Whittaker, G. H. Yates, W. A3 orris, W. Fly, H. O'Donnell, and T. Porter. A vote of thanks was accorded to the Secretary,-Mr A. Hathaway, for his services as the club's delegate to the recent trotting conference. The following were appointed a Ground Committee: —Messrs F. Buick, T. W. Miller, J. Cress, W. Cragg, A. Snodgrass, W. Whittaker, W. Cooper,*G. H. Yates, J. Dixon, J. O'Meara, D. McNair, W. Morris and W. J. Fly. Messrs W. D. Watson, J. Cress, W. Whittaker, A. Snodgrass, J. Dixon, W. Cooper and W. Cragg were appointed a Programme Committee, and were allowed the maximum amount to be paid iii stakes at the next meeting. The committee/were given power to act.
It was decided to hold the annual trotting meeting on Thursday, November 14th. A vote of thanks to the Chairman aucl Secretary concluded the meeting.
