IMPORTS OF OPIUM BY CHINA. Eeceived August 1, 7.59 a.m. LONDON, July 31. The Right Hon. J. Morley, Secretary of State for India, has intimated his assent to a regular decrease in China's import of Indian opium, provided China proves that she is correspGfidingly reducing the production of the native drug; furthermore, that Great Britain assents to an increase in the Customs and likin duties, and the placing of foreign opium on an equality with native as regards taxation. IRELAND'S BATTLE-CRY. Received August 1, 8.44 a.m. LONDON, July 31. Sir Thomas Esmonde, in a letter to Mr John Redmond in June, declared that the Nationalist co-oper-ation with the English Liberals had now ended, and that their battle-cry henceforth would be repeal of the union. A NEW ZEALANDER'S ESTATE. Received August 1, 9 a.m. LONDON, July 31. The English estate of the late Mr Leonard Marshall, of New Zealand, has been sworn at £15,244. IRISH LEAGUE MEETING PROHIBITED. Received August 1. 9 a.m. LONDON, July 31. The Government has prohibited the jlrish League from meeting at Balla, County Mayo, in order to prevent ntimidation in connection with a boycotted grazing farm.
