CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) CARTERTON, August 1. The Kinderspiel entertainment recently given in the Clareville Hall by the Clareville school children was repeated in the Victoria Hall, last evening, before a very fair audience. The action songs and marches were performed by the children in a very pleasing manner. The entertainment was given in aid of the Carterton Public Library. The formation of Broadway is nearing completion, and the work should be out of the contractor's hands in a few weeks time. This street, when completed, will form one of the busiest thoroughfares in the town, as it will give a direct route to the railway station, and should prove of great benefit to local carriers and others. A good practice was indulged in by the Carterton A and B hockey teams on the Park this afternoon. On the local reserve, this afternoon, the Rover A defeated the Liberals by 16 points to nil. A most enjoyable dance, promoted by the bachelor." of Dalefield, was held in the Dalefield Public Hall on Wednesday evening. The visitors included a number from Carterton and Grey town. The duties of M's.C. were carried out by Messrs A. Welch, H. Playle and G. Abbott. The music was supplied by Mr and Mrs Sorensen, of Featherston. Extras were played by Misses August and Nielsen and Mr A. E. Standen. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies. This afternoon the girls attending Miss Lvingston's private school journeyed to Greytown and handed over to the South Wairarapa Hospital the proceeds of the recent bazaar, which was promoted by the girls, amounting to £3O 6s. The Governmej-.t subsidy has to be added to this amount.
