CARTERTON.

(From Our Own Con-respondent.) Wednesday. Two five-roomed dwellings are in course of erection in Pembroke Street. In con=equence of the continued wet weather colds are very prevalent here just now. The new Fire Brigade Station, which is being erected in Broadway, will be completed and ready for occupation in about a month's time. Nctices are now being placed upon the bridges in the Wairarapa [South County, prohibiting the; carrying of excessive loads over the bridges. The canvassers appointed in connection with the Methodist new parsonage scheme, met in the Church on Tuesday afternoon, and submitted their reports on the districts which had been canvassed. So far about £l7O has been promised toward the erection of the building, lhe same evening a meeting of the Christian Endeavour Society was held, there being a moderate attendance of members. The Rev. W. J. Elliott presided. A paper on What the Bible says about bands" was read by Miss M. Andrews. Considerable discussion followed, and an instructive and profitable evening was spent. Yesterday Messrs _W. Moore and G. A. Fairbrother, J's.P., a local resident was fined £2 for having been in charge of a horse and cart whilst under the influence of liquor.
