At a meeting of the Permanent International Sugar Committee there were indications that the signatory Governments are desirous of finding a solution which will allowj Britain to remain a party to the Brussels Convention. WESLEYAN CONFERENCE. NEW PRESIDENT. LONDON, July 26. The Rev. J. Scott Lidgett was elected president of the Wesleyan Conference. NATAL'S WAR CONTRIBUTION. LOiNDON, July 26. The Natal Government complains that while the Transvaal's war contribution, amounting to thirty millions, has been waived, Natal's £700,000 has not been reduced, and £250,000 for rents and harbour dues has not been paid. BRITISH AND FOREIGN TRADE. Received July 28, 4.10 p.m. CAPETOWN, July 27. The half-year's trade statistics of Cape Colony show that for the first time [[since preference was adopted there has been a distinct increase in the proportion of British trade as compared with foreign trade.
