CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Friday. As a result of the heavy rain which fell on Thursday night, the roads here were in a very bad state to-day. The lamp which is being erected at the intersection of Rhodes and High Street is nearing completion. When the work is completed the business portion of the Borough will then be lit by six double arc gas lamps. A match of considerable interest will be played here this afternoon between teams representing the Featherston and Red Star Juniors. There is at present on view at the premises of Messrs Hartmann, Hoar and Permain, High Street, a good photograph of the late annual show of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society, and also a photograph of the past presidents. A social and dance was held here on Thursday evening under the auspices of the Rover Football Club. There were about seventy couples present. The music was supplied by Miss Berrill (piano) and Mr R. Crawley (cornet). The M's.C. were Messrs N. McKenzie, C. Fairbrother and G. Hall. Extras were played by Misses W. Hall and E. Nicholson, and Mr F. Sew el I sang a song.
