MUSICAL'S SUGGESTIONS.
To the Editor. Sir,—Kindly allow me space in your valuable paper to reply to "Musical's" letter of 19th inst. Seeing that he gives out suggestions may I be allowed to make another, viz., that he sign himself "Discord," instead of "Musical," next time he takes up his pen, as his letter is more likely to promote the former than the latter. By the tone of "Musical's" letter one would gather that it is a henious offence on the part of the Masterton Municipal Band to possess enough brains and bustle to keep alive, and have sinned by making a few pounds. Instead of considering their own needs they should at once form themselves into a charitable aid institution, regardless of the fact that the public patronage was given for a specific purpose. I would remind "Musical" that members of the band promoted this scheme, and are guaranteeing all necessary funds to bring the competitions to a successful issue. Therefore, all credit, as well as monetary benefits, aire due to them, and the fact that the band asked and received the support of some of our most influential and public-spirited citizens does not alter the primary object of the scheme. I contend that the band is in every way deserving of public support. They are always ready to give their time and talent in the cause of charity, besides contributing in no small degree to the enjoyment of the music-loving public. In conclusion, I would ask "Musical" to form a few more suggestions, and keep them for the benefit of the other needy institutions which he mentions. Thanking you in anticipation,—l m, etc., PRESTO VIVO, Masterton, July 22nd, 1907.
