LICENSING SHOOTING GALLERIES.
MATTER BEFORE THE BOROUGH COUNCIL. An application was made at the meeting of the Mastertor. Borough Council, last evening, by Mr C. A. Pownail, on behalf of Mr VV. Jones, for a permit to carry on a shooting gallery in Queen Street. The Borough Inspector reported favourably on the application. The Mayor said that there was no by-law governing the "matter. The business had been carried on for years without a license. The only by-law the Council had was one preventing firearms being discharged in the borough. The Town Clerk said he understood the application had been made as the result of a prosecution for discharging firearms in the borough. Cr Ewington did not wish to oppose the application, but he would like to see a by-law in force governing such applications. On the motion of Cr Morris the application was granted, subject to any by-law on the matter that might be made. It was then decided, on the motion of Cr Ewington, that a by-law be drawn up regulating shooting galleries in the borough.
