THE FINANCE BILL. Received July 4, 10.7 p.m. LONDON, July 4. In the House of Commons, in connection with the Finance Bill, Mr Asquith resisted an amendment reducing the income tax to elevenpence, though he denied having stated that the tax would 'be permanently a shilling. The amendment was negatived bv 256 to 95.
Mr Asquith consented to pensions superannuation allowances, and deferred pay being treated as earned income and entitled to pay a reduced tax of ninepence.
