LAND HUNGER.
By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, June 26. One thousand applications were received for a block of Crown land at Waimata, of 1,117 acres, which was to be ballotted to-morrow, but to the great disappointment of applicants, word was received, yesterday, that the block would be withdrawn in consequence of an incompleted title, the matter now being before the Native Land Court. About four years ago the same section was withdrawn at the last moment after a great rush of selectors. A local commission was set up to go into the title and refer it to the Native Land Court to define the interests.
