INTER-IMPERIAL MAILS.
OTTAWA, June 7. Mr R. L. Borden, Leader of the Opposition in the Canadian Parliament, addressing his constituents, referred to the All Red mail route, and urged caution in the matter, on the ground that not one per cent, of Canadians crossed the Atlantic yearly, while 75 per cent, were interested in freight rates and cold storage. The best possible passenger service was desirable, but not at the expense of the farmers, of producers,, or of trade with the Motherland. THE LAING SYNDICATE. MELBOURNE, June 8. Sir John Forrest, Acting-Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, has submitted the position with regard to the mail contract to the Cabinet. No decision has been reached. Sir John Forrest states that the Government want to see the contract carried out If it is to be varied they will refer it back to Parliament.
