CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I was a passenger from Masterton by the 3,26 train to-night and was disgusted at the way in which the passengers were fairly pushed on to the platform of the carriages, also into the van. The carriages are well supplied with notices of all sorts of rules, which are broken only by the railway servants by disgracefully overcrowding the cars. No doubt it is a little red-tape which prevents extra cars being supplied. Many people would prefer to ride in an open truck than stand packed in a carriage with scarcely breathing space, jwhich, after a short time, becomes very foul through tobacco fumes and excess of liquor. I think it is quite time proper seating accommodation was provided beyond the control of these red-tape officers. —I am, etc., TRAVELLER. Kopuaranga, June Ist, 1907.
