MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WORKS COMMITTEE. The ordinary meeting of the Works Committee of the Masterton Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by Crs J. H. Pauling (chairman), A. Haughey. W. Morris, W. Pragnell, J. Prentice and the Mayor. It was resolved to recommend that the Manager of the Abattoir be authorised to employ U. Wishart regularly, instead of casually, at the abattoir. It was decided to pay W. A. McLaren and Co.'s account for £1,489 13s for road machinery, subject to a boiler certificate being obtained-. The committee resolved to extend the drainage to Mr D. Lett's property provided he pays half the cost (£10) unconditionally. The committee could not reco.nmend any refund to Mr Lett. After discussion, the following resolutions were passed:—That no more water connections be made by the Council, anu persons desiring a water supply must apply for a permit and employ a licensed plumber to do the work (except only the tapping of the water mains, which will be carried out by the Council), and all material and apparatus required from the main to the property must be paid for by the persons requiring the water; that ail excavations or obstructions in the streets bo fv iced, protected and lighted to tne satisfaction of the Borough authorities at ail times; that the Council be recommended to let the whole of the waterworks reserve on lease for seven years, the Council not to be liable for any fencing, and to have the right of entry at any time on any part to carry out any necessary works; that in all cases where the sewers have to be laid in water, iron pipes must be used.
