THE PROFESSIONAL TEAM. By Telegraph —Press Association. CHRISTCHURCII, June 4. At a meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union, tonight, a letter was read from the New Zealand Union asking the committee to hold an immediate enquiry into the matter of players under the jurisdiction of the Canterbury Union refusing to sign the declaration as requested by the New Zealand Union. Mr D. McGregor, who previously had refused to sign the document, attended, and stated that he was willing now to sign it at any time. In reply to a question, he said his reason for refusing to sign the declaration was that the Rugby Union had never before doubted his amateur status, and he saw no reason why they should doubt it this year. He wished to say nothing about the professional team, and declined to divulge anything that might have taken place. He was , prepared to sign now simply because the other players were signing. It was agreed to forward McGregor's replies to the New Zealand Union for their consideration.
