HOCKEY.

MAJOR CUP COMPETITION. UNITED v. CARTERTON B. The United team defeated Carterton B, at Lansdowne, yesterday afternoon, by 7 goals to nil. United had the best of the game throughout. Goals were scored by Baker (2), Tooby (2), Hooper, Winter and Hatch. Mr W. J. Vernon acted as referee. KNOX v. GREYTOWN. The Knox and Greytown teams met at Lansdowne, yesterday, Greytown winning by 5 goals to one. The game was mostly in favour of the visitors. Gray scored the goal for Knox. Mr S. A. Noble-Campbell was referee. W.F.C.A. v. CARTERTON A. A match was played at Carterton, yesterday, between W.F.C.A. and Carterton A, the latter winning by 3 goals to one. The game was av.ery hard fought one, and both trams gave a good exhibition of hockey. W.F.C.A. had the best of the first spell, and scored one goal (hit by Whitt), their oponents failing to score. Carterton, however, proved superior in the second spell, and scored 3 goals in the last quarter of an hour. Bunny and King were the most prominent in the Carterton team. In the W.F.C.A. backs Hall played a splendid game, as goalkeeper, and Richards and Flemming each played a fine defensive game. G. Scrimgeour. who had Bunny as his opponent, showed up well. The forwards were a very even lot, Whitt, Pragnell and Petersen beiug perhaps the most conspicuous. Mr J. O'Meara was referee.

HUGHES SHIELD COMPETITION. The Huia team journeyed to Carterton, yesterday, and played a drawn game with the Hinemoa team. There was no score on either side. Huias had the best of the game, and had hard luck in not scoring from one shot by Miss Sutton, which struck one of , the posts. For the. Huias, Misses Sutton, Barr, Richards and La Roche were prominent, and Misses Molloy. Telford, Reid and Hewson were the pick of the Hinemoa team. Mr J. Fisher was referee. The Featherston team to play the Glengarrys, at Greytown, to-morrQw, is as follows:—Misses G. Dalryrnple, K. Cummings, I. Fuge, J. Hardie, M. Elliott, .Letitia Skipage, Lizzie Skipage, Elsie Burt, Ethel BUrt, A. Benton, I..Benton (captain); emergencies, K. Scott and I. Rowe. The Glengarry Club will be represented by:—Misses J. Evans, F. de Lisle, G. Gordon, F. Hood, I. McKenzie, A. Devonport, A. Pyke, J. Deane,

J. McHattie, W. Logan, and K. McGregor; emergencies, Misses E. Devonport and A. Gardner. A drag will leave the Masterton Post Office at 1.30 p.m.
