MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting i f the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. There wore present:- The Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), Crs J. Yarr, J. Prentice, J. C. Ewington, W. Pragnell, W. Morris, A. Hauphev, F. W. Temple, J. Elliott, J. H. Pauling. The Poundkeeper (Mr C. H. Savage) wrote asking that five or six yards of gravel be carted to the pound as it was needed owing to the bad weather and the large number of stock impounded.— The application was granted. A letter was received from Mr A. Henderson stating that his contract for the upkeep of the Town Clock and three clocks in the Council Chambers had expired on April 30th. He applied for an increase in the amount paid him for the upkeep of the clocks. He seated tlmt as the upkeep of the town clock and bells was considerable the increased amount asked for was necessary to give them proper attention.—The matter was referred to the Finance Committee. Mr F. H. Quinn, of Invercargill, wrote regretting that owing to his having been laid aside with rheumatics he had been unable to attend to the numbering of the houses in tl e Borough. The letter stated that th> writer would leave for Wellington by the steamer sailing from the Blulion May 13th, and would call on the, Town Clerk when he arrived in Masterton. Mr A. R. Bunny wrote in reference to the water which is discharged from the culvert in Bunny Street on to his property adjoining it, and complaining that after any rain a large amount of water accumulated on his land. From a sanitary point of view this was a serious nuisance, and a menace to the health of his family. He therefore requested that the Council should take immediate steps to remedy the evil. —lt was decided to refer the ( matter to the Works Committee.
