FAST ATLANTIC SERVICE.

Received May 14, 8.55 a.m. LONDON, May 13.

I Sir Wilfrid Laurier hopes to secure an Atlantic service equal to that of : NewT:Y6rk, ! -though ■. he < recognises that it means a subsidy of probably half a million. This, coupled with a very rapid Canadian railway service, and improved steamers on the Pacific, is expected to reduce transit from England to New Zealand to about twenty days. Doubt is expressed as to whether Australasia will be able to supply the passengers and freights required fdr such a costly service, but Sir Joseph Ward is confident. Meanwhile, negotiations respecting the temporary continuance of the Vancouver service are hung up.
