The State Premier, Mr Carruthers, speaking at the opening of the Lithgow ironworks, aggressively warned the Federal Government ; not to attempt, by coddling, to establish industries in any other State at the expense of New South Wales, which had embarked in a great iron and steel industry without assistance from the Federal Government.. The taxpayers would not tolerate being taxed to establish industries in other States.
