MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MEETING O* 1 PARK AND LIBRA* ¥ COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Masterton Borough Park and Library Committee was, held, last evening, there being present:—Crs F. W. Temple. W. Morris and J. C. Ewington. Or Ewington was elected Chairman of the Con».ijiuee. Messrs J. Kelliher and Robeiiaon waited on tho Committee. and asked for a refund of part of the amount (£lO 10s), charged for the use of the Park on the occasion of the sports meeting of the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club, on January 22nd. They produced a balance-sheet showing a deficiency of £43 8s 3d on tho meeting and pointed out that they only had the use' of the Park from 1.30 o'clock in the afternoon for two or three hours, and had to pay a fee of £lO 10s. The Club were endeavouring to raise funds to wipe off their deficit, and they asked the Committee to assist them by granting a refund. The Committee recommended that half the fee (£5 ss) be refunded to the Club. The Committee decided to ask the Works Committee to let them have the of the light spring tip-dray as they' understand that the Engineer could spare it from time to time if one of the old water-carts was made suitable for use for scavenging. The Engineer was instructed to have the willows near the small intake in the Park removed. It was decided to raise the stop bank at the Park another two feet. The statement of Library accounts since April Ist showed a debit balance of £4 10s lOd. The Librarian's report showed subscriptions for the month to have been:—Ratepayers, £4 8s 9d; non-ratepayers, £7; making a total of £ll 8a 9d. • Accounts amounting to 15s were passed for payment. It was decided to discuss the question of library accommodation at the i next meeting of the Committee.
