FOOTBALL.
WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION. (Special Reporter.) A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held at Carterton or Saturday evening. There were present—Messrs A. B. Charters (chairman), D. K. Logan, J. Cochrane, E. M cKenzie, J. Nicholls, A.. B. Balfour, Wynes, and A. L. Webster (hon. secretary). As the Wellington made a proposal regarding a match bstween Wellington and Wairarapa, at Wellington, on June 3rd, it was decided to|write to the Wellington Union offering to play a Wellington on the above date if the sum of £25 or 10 per cent, of the gate receipts (whichever should be the greater) be guaranteed, and if a return match be played in the Wairarapa before the end of July. y The sum of one guinea was voted to Mr W. H. Jackson for the use of the High School recreation ground, the Committee appreciating Mr Jackson's courtesy in granting the use of the -ground at a time when other grounds were not available. It was decided to procure a dozen copies of the latest rules (issued by the New Zealand Referees' Association) for the use of local referees. If any players desire copies, such will be procured at a cost of sixpence | each. A motion was passed, calling for lan explanation within a fortnight from those junior representative i players who did not make the trip to i Wellington, last season, or even [notify the manager beforehand; if explanations are not satisfactory, the defaulters to be liable to suspension by the union. Mr Logan, delegate to N.Z.R.U, gave a report of the proceedings at the annual meeting of the parent body. A letter from the Featherston Saturday Club with reference to the "posting" of members, late of the Liberal Club, was referred to the Thursday Union for a report. The Featherston Saturday Club was allowed to change its to light blue and white. The fixtures for the first round were drawn as under. Owing to difficulty over grounds, it was found necessary to give byes to two junior teams, and for the same reason the last match of the junior fixtures cannot be drawn just yet. SENIOR. As it is probable that a Referees' Association will be formed in the Wairarapa, referees were appointed for.;two matches only, leaving the Association to appoint referees for the remaining matches from among its members.
