HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

Under date April 27th, the High Commissioner cables from London:— The mutton market is dull, and trade for all classes has been very slow, and prices are barely maintained. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 33d, and North Island at 3|d. The lamb market is steady, and there is a good demand for all lamb. Light weights are quoted at 5Jd (Canterbury brands), other brands 5Jd; heavy weights, Canterbury 5 l-sd, other brands 4|d. The beef market is quiet but firm, and quotations are BJd and 3d for hind and forequarters, respectively. The butter market is dull, owing to the poor demand experienced. Choice New Zealand butter is quoted at 975, Argentine 965, Siberian 90s and Danish ldls. The cheese market is ststedy at 625. The hemp market is quiet at a decline. Good fair grade on the spot is quoted at £35 10s, April-June shipments A' 33. Fair grade on spot £3O, AprilJune shipment £29 10s. Fair current Manila on the spot is quoted at £3B. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen to do business, aa they are waiting for reports concerning the American <.rop. Seventeen pound, bright, clean New Zealand seed is quoted at 52s per cwt. The quotation for Bradford tops are as follow:—36's, lowjjcossbreds, Is 4 l-3d; 40' a, low crossbreds, 1 Is s{d; 44' a, medium crossbreds, Is 7d;-50's, hatfbreds, Is 9|d. The market is steady.
