PREVENTION OF FIRE.
By Order-in-Council in last week's Gazette jthe new constituted fire districts of Feilding, Palmerston
North, and Oamaru are defined. Rules are also gazetted for the > election of representatives of the companies on thei boards formed un- , der the Act. The first election is to ' be held on the third Monday in May, and thence every other year. For the elections to be held this year each company carrying on business in any fire district shall be entitled ' to one vote for each member to be elected to the board 'of that district, but thereafter each person voting on behalf of any. company at any election of any Fire guard will be entitled to vote in accordance with the following scale:-If the company on behalf of which he is voting has in accordance with the next following ° clause returned <,for the year previous to the election a premium revenue of less than £3,000, one vote for each member to be elected; if £3,000 but less than £6,000, two votes for each member to be elected; if £6,000 but less than £9,000, three votes for each member to be elected; if £ 9,000 and upwards, four votes for each member to be elected. After this year every company must, before the 30th day of April in each year,, furnish to the Secretary of the Council of Fire Underwriters' Associations of New Zealand a statement of the amount of its gross revenue, less reinsurances, in each, fire district. Such information will be • deemed strictly confidential by him, and must.be destroyed after he has ' notified '.'" the various Returning Officers of the' several fire districts of the number of votes each company is entitled to.
