Sir John Forrest, Acting-Premier of the Commonwealth, on being urged to put the anti-dumping law into operation against the importation of sugar from Fiji, Java, and Mauritius, replied that those interested have to make the first move, and lodge a complaint.

The steamer Fortunatus,, en route for India, with a full cargo, is ashore at Flores Island. The jettisoning of the cargo is progressing. STRIKES IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Received April 15, 9.35 a.m. SYDNEY, April 15. The strike of the coal carriers, who objected to work under foremen who had given certain evidence before the Arbitration Court, has extended to the German mail steamer Yorck. The crews of the Oroya and the Yorck are doing theeoal carrying, and it is expected to "get the steamers away to time. The steamer Somerset, which was to have shipped 3,000 tons, has proceeded to Newcastle owing to the trouble. . The strike at Cobar has ended. Work was resumed to-day. The wages prescribed by the Arbitration Court's award will prevail for four months, when the position will be reconsidered.

The New Zealander Lionheart (Leolantis —Good Day) annexed the April Hurdle Race, getting home fifteen lengths in front of Sir Peter Teazle and Portcullis. Received April 16, 1.19 a.m. SYDNEY, April 15. The New Zealand pony Frederick was offered for sale at auction and passed in at £4OO. THE PLAGUE. Received April 16, 1.9 a.m. SYDNEY, April 15. Another plague patient has died.
