MOUNT HOLDSWORTH TRACK

* MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Mount Holdsworth Track Committee was held, in the Mas'terton Borough Council Chambers, last evening. Mr J. C. Ewington presided, and there were eight other members present. The letter from Mr J. Strauchon, Commissioner of Crown Lands, which has already been published in the Age, was read. Mr Strauchon suggested that the proposed accommodation hut on the mountain should have a 10ft stud. The committee considered that there were not sufficient funds with which to provide such a large stud. It was resolved to make the stud Bft high. It was decided to thank Mr Strauchon for nis letter. The committee decided to act on the suggestion of Mr T. E. Donne, manager of the Tourist Department, and construct a door leading straight from the ladies' room in the accommodation hut into the open instead of into the living room. The question of levying a charge on persons ascending the mountain and using the mountain hut was allowed to stand over until next year. Messrs D. McGregor, C. Bannister, H. Evans and J. Dagg were appointed a committee to proceed with the erection of the hut on the mounj tain. The committee were given power to erect the walls in iron, in- | stead of wood, if they thought fit. It was resolved to vote Mr W. M. Easthope, the secretary, the sum of £5 5s for his services up to the present. On the motion of Mr D. Dobson, it was decided to write to the Tourist Department asking them to advertise the mountain throughout the colony. Mr D. Turner was authorised to obtain a tracing, if possible, from the Survey Department, of the typographical plans of the Tararua Ranges. Mr Turner thought that such, a tracing would be useful in finding new tracks on the mountains. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Dobson for drawing up plans and other services to the committee.
