EKETAHUNA COUNTY COUNCIL.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) . The monthly meeting of the Ekqtahuna County Council was held on Saturday. There were present—Crs Moss (chairman), Pitcaithly,Redpath, Falkner, Lowes, Connor, Davie, and Dawson. The Treasurer reported as follows: County Fund, dr., £3 17s 7d; Government Loans Account, cr., £l4 8s lOd. Accounts amounting to £292 Is 8d were passed for payment. The Clerk was instructed to inform Mr Prendeville, solicitor for Mr B. Hathaway, that the Council recognised no claim for extras on the Parkvale Road loan contract, as the contract was finished and paid for. In the absence of the Overseer, the Chairman was empowered to supei'vise the contract on the NewmanStirling Road, and Cr Lowes the Mangaone Road contract. The tender of A. Larsen for contract No. 60 was accepted. The Chairman's action in letting the contract was confirmed. A deputation, consisting of Messrs Page, Herbert, Kershaw, Mead and Prendeville, waited on the Council on behalf of the Town Board ratepayers. Mr Page asked that the Council should extend the time in connection with enforcing the 10 per cent, penalty on rates in the Town Board Area, and that the Council should not take proceedings to collect a general rate in the Town Area until a decision is given by the Commissioners in the matter of the adjustment of the accounts between the two bodies. He suggested that an amicable agreement might be arrived at between the two bodies.
The Council decided, on the motion of Cr Dawson, seconded by Cr Redpath, not to collect the County general rate in the TSketahuna Town Area until a decision is given by the Commissioners in the matter of adjusting the accounts between the two bodies, or until an amicable agreement is arrived at by the Council and Town Board. It was also decided to suspend the enforcement of the 10 per cent, penalty on the rates until June 30th, 1907. Special rates, however, must be paid at the ordinary time.' Mr Mead, on behalf of the Eketahuna Cemetery Trustees, waited on the Council and asked for financial assistance in connection with the. cemetery. It was decided to consider the matter when framing the estimates for next year. It was resolved to inform 1 Mr Mowbray that the Council declined to contribute towards the upkeep of a proposed foot-bridge over the Mangatainoka River. The Overseer was instructed to •attend to the bridge on the Hukanui Road near the store.
The Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to raise a loan of £350 for the purpose of constructing Larsen's Bridge.
