BOROUGH WORKS.
REPORT BY THE ENGINEER. The Borough Engineer submitted a report to the meeting of the Borough Council, last evening, on the question of urgent loan works in the outlying parts of the Borough. With regard to. Donald Street, the Engineer recommended that the formation of the street should beput in hand. Two sections < the Ngamatawa road had been completed,, but further work was precluded until Mr Perry set back his fence to give a width of one chain throughout. Work in Villa Street was prevented until the owners of property in that street agreed to set back their fences to give the required width to the street. The widening of Johnston Street had been commenced, and some progress made with the necessary filling. Plans and specifications were being prepared for calling tenders for work on Bunny's Road. With regard to the complaints that in heavy rainfalls the water flooded the footpath in Queen Street, near Renall Street, the Engineer suggested that, in order to remedy the matter, Queen Street should be graded from Ross Street and the water diverted into the Makora Creek at Mr H. O'Leary's shop. This work would entail the raising of the road and path in front of Mr Pragnell's section and channeling the same all the way to the creek as well as kerbing both sides. The Council decided to form 35.. chains of Donald Street fat the north •end. It was decided to ask Mr Perry to set back his fence in Ngamatawa Road; also to ask the property owners in Villa Street to do the same, to enable the work of widening the street to be proceeded with. With regard to carrying the storm wa|;er away from Queen Street South, it was decided to instruct the Engineer to prepare an estimate of the cost of grading the street northwards from the Convent. The Engineer was, also instructed to prepare an. estimate .of : "the cost of grading the south end of Dixon Street. Instructions were also given to the Engineer to prepare estimates of .. various works required in Cole, Cornwall, and Ross Streets and Worksop and Colombo Roads.
