EKETAHUNA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Thursday. A visitor to Eketahuna remarked recently upon the rapid progress that the town has made. This progress is very noticeable in the main street, where a large number of new shops and offices have, within the last two years, been erected. One shop in particular attracts attention, viz., a large and double-fronted one occupied by Mr W. Kershaw, who is carrying on business as baker and pastrycook. A large oven, newly built and capable of holding 350 loaves, is turning out bread that is delivered daily throughout this district, including Nireaha, Newman, Stirling and Parkville. The bakehouse is in charge of a capable and experienceed man, who is also a good pastrycook. The afternoon tea and dining-rooms are open at all hours to suit the convenience of the public. A specialty is made of wedding and birthday cakes. A bazaar in aid of the Vicarage Fund of the Anglican Parochial District of Eketahuna was opened this afternoon, and will continue to be the centre of local attraction until Friday night. The arrangements are complete, and reflect great credit upon all who have worked in the interests of the bazaar. The stalls are all tastefully and neatly arranged. In a secluded corner of the hall is a nicely-arranged "park," called the "lover's lane," and fish ponds, which is in charge of Mr J. J. Mead. The "Rongomai Stall" is in charge of Mesdames J. P. Lowes and Waldrin and Miss Waldrin. The ladies in charge of this-, stall have handed to the Vicar (the Rev. Vincent Kitcat) a cheque for nine guineas for goods sold before the opening of the bazaar. This is a matter for congratulation, and augurs .well for the financial success of the bazaar. Members of the Masterton Tennis Club visited Eketahuna to-day and played a match against the local club. The match resulted in a win for the local club by nine games to seven games. Afkernoon tea and refreshments were provided by the ladies. The following were the scores: —
