SYDNEY, February 28. Mr W. A. Holman, a member of the Assembly, in a speech, declared that, from what he saw at the Sydney University, too much attention was given to playing cricket and drinking beer and whisky than to the learning which told for the national greatness. So far as the Univeristy had any influence on national education it might as well be a boxing saloon or a beer shop. OBITUARY. Received Last Night, 11.46 o'clock. SYDNEY, February 28. The death is announced of Mr John Young, president of the Bowling Association. INTERSTATE TRADES CONGRESS. , Received Last Night, 11.46 o'clock. MELBOURNE, February 28. The Interstate Trades Congress is sitting in camera. Mr Beaston, the New Zealand delegate, has been elected a vice-chairman. It was resolved that, while urging the various States to relax no effort in furthering industrial legislation, an amendment to the Federal Constitution is desirable which will give the Federal Parliament authority to legislate on such industrial matters.
