(From Our Own Correspondent)

The weather lately has b<:en inost .-suitable for grass-seed sowing on burns. It is reported that one settler here has turnip, rape, and grass well up. On Friday evening last the seventh annual ball was hald in commemoration of the opening of the Public Hall. The attendance was small. Only two ladies were in fancy dress —Miss Drysdale as a Highland lassie, and Miss Andrews as a Spanish dancing girl. Altogether about forty -were present. The floor was in good order, and the music was supplied by Messrs Smith and Waterson. The post of Master of Ceremonies was '.ably filled by Mr James Fulton. The number of children attending •our school at present is 76. At the last examination, it will be remembered, there were 100 per cent, of passes. Mr R. W. Brown, Chairman of the Pohangina County Council, is at present visiting Nireaha.
