(From Our Own Correspondent). Wednesday. The following players have been selected to play in the tennis matches against Masterton:—Men's Singles: Rutherfurd, T. M. Page, Toohill, E. Page, F. J. Bright, Gordon, W. J. Bright, Holdsworth. Men's Doubles: Toohill and Williams, Rutherfurd and T. M. Page, W. J. Bright and Gordon, F. J. Bright and Holdsworth. Ladies' Singles: Miss Page, Miss Toohill, Miss Bright, Miss Turnor, Mrs McLean. Ladies' Doubles: Miss Page and Miss Bright, Miss Toohill and Mrs McLsan. A meeting of the ratepayers will be held on Monday evening next to discuss.the rate levied by the County Council on the property in the newlyformed borough, and which is at present controlled by a Town Board. At the monthly meeting of the local branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union it was decided to approach Mr Jackson, Headmaster of the Masterton School, and try and arrange with him for an exhibit of ■ the produce of the agricultural class, together with particulars as to manures used, similar to that exhibited at the Masterton Show. It was also decided to ask the Argicltural Department to make an exhibit at the forthcoming Show that is to be held on Thursday, March 7th. The Eketahuna Brass* Band will be asked to provide music on the occasion, and in connection with the refreshment room the secretary was instructed to accept the highest tender. It was decided to store the timber used for tables at the Show for future use instead of selling it at the conclusion of the Show. The services of a photographer are to be obtained to take photos of the Show. On the motion of Mr Youle 't was resolved to draw the attention of .the executive to the socialistic publication issued by the Labour Department under Mr Tregear's editorship.
A meeting of the members of the local Hack Racing Club is to be hell 0:1 Thursday evening. The question of securing land suitable for a racing course will be discussed. The local branch of the Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association have been entrusted with the order to completely furnish the Farmers' and Commercial Club of Eketahuna. This firm's tender was selected from a large number. The quality of the furniture and effects to be supplied i to fulfil this order are to be of the very best. '' Messrs Dalgety and Company conducted a very successful clearing sale, yesterday, of stock, household furniture and effects in the estate of Mr R. G. Lee, of Pleckville, who is leaving the district on account of , ill-health. Very satisfactory prices' were realised. Mr A. Walker, representing the above firm, was the «officiating salesman. The annual social and dance to be held by the members of the Myrtle Lodge, U.A.0.D., to commemorate their third year will be held on March 14th in the local Town Hall. There is every prospect of the function being a success. The fortnightly meeting of the •Foresters' Lodge wa3"hdd last night when four new members were initiated and four more were proposed for membership. This* Lodge is making rapid progress, and is very popular.
