INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITALS.
NEW -BUILDINGS FOR MASTERTON AND PAHIATUA.
At the meeting of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board, yesterday, the plans for the new infectious diseases hospitals at Masterton and Pahiatua were adopted. Tenders are to be called for the buildings, which will be erected as soon as possible. . Both buildings are to be built in brick, and are of a somewhat similar design, though the Masterton Hospital will be larger in every respect. The Masterton building, which will be erected near the new Hospi - tal now in course of construction, will be 68ft long, 17ft deep, exclusive of the verandah, and 12ft high. There will be two wards, 28ft by 17ft, which will contain four beds each, with an air space of 1,430 ft per bed. The nurses' room and kitchen, which are on opposite sides of the building, measure 12ft 6in by 12ft and 12ft by lift, respectively, and are each separated from the wards by a 3ft corridor. The out offices will also be connected with the main building by a 3ft corridor. The dimensions of the Pahiatua Hospital are:—Length 42ft, depth 23ft, height 12ft. It, also, contains two wards, each 15ft by 15ft and each containing two beds, with an air space of 1,500 ft per bed. The nurses' room is 12ft by 10ft, and the kitchen is of the same dimensions. As in the case of the Masterton building, the nurses' room is connected with the wards by a 3ft corridor. Care has been taken to secure ample ventilation in each building, while the lavatory arrangements will be on the most up-to-date and convenient principle.
