WAIRARAPA DISTRICT HOSPITAL BOARD.

SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board was held, yesterday morning, to con sider the question of proceeding with the erection of infectious diseases hospitals at Masterton and Pahiatua. There were present—Messrs E. G. Eton (chairman). W. Fisher, W. Perry, F. W. H. Kummer, D. Crewe, A. O. Considine, M. J. H. Jackson, M. Maxton, T. Moss, J. C. Ewington and A. J. Speedy. The Minister of Public Health (Hon. G. Fowlds) wrote stating that he would have pleasure in introducing as early as possible next session an amendment to the Public Health ; Act which would enable the Wairarapa District Hospital Board to build infectious diseases hospitals on land owned by the Trustees of the Masterton and Pahiatua Hospitals. On the motion of Mr Perry, seconded by Mr Ewington, it was decided to proceed with the erection of fever hospitals at Masterton and Pahiatua, the buildings to be erected in brick. Mr Ewington moved that a committee be appointed to confer with the Health Officer and architects on the question of whether the accommodation provided on the plan submitted is sufficient for present and prospective requirements. Mr Jackson moved, as an amendmentj that tenders be called for the erection of the building according to the plans. After discussion the amendment was carried by seven votes to four, i Messrs Varnham and Rose were appointed to supervise the erection of both buildings. With regard to the out offices, which were shown on the plan at the ends of the buildings, itwas decided, subject to the approval of the Health Department, to remove them to the back of the buildings so as to allow of the extension of the main buildings at any time. It was resolved that tenders for the buildings should close on March 19th. Messrs Crewe, Fisher, Ewington ar.d the Chairman were appointed a committee to open the tenders on March 20th.
