TRENTHAM RIFLE MEETING.
By Telegraph—Press Association
TRENTHAM, Last Night. The Rifle Association's meeting will open to-morrow morning under the most favourable auspices. Arrangements on the ground have never been more complete; and everything \ is in first-class "order. Since last meeting the grounds have been cleared of stumps and boulders, and the shooters' mounds have been rendered dry and comfortable. The number of targets has been increased to seventy-five, and with this number it is expected that the meeting will be able to conclude this day week without omitting any event on the programme and without unduly taxing the riflemen. Considering that the Exhibition Meeting debarred a great number of riflemen from Trentham, as they would otherwise have done, the attendance may be considered highly satisfactory. The entries so far number about 380, and it is expected that fully 400 competitors will take part in the meeting. A considerable number of the rifle "cracks" of the colony are on the ground, including King, Irvine. Ballinger Brothers, Hyde, and Randall, and a really first-class meeting is anticipated. The weather, at the time of writing, has every appearance of being fine for the opening. The Championship Matches will be started first thing in the morning, commencing with the Auckland and Wellington matches. Collins is in " charge, as usual, and has spared no trouble to secure the most complete arrangements.
