NIREAHA.
. -* — ■■ — (From Our Own Correspondent.) During this week a severe thunder- [ storm passed over our locality, ac- I companied by heavy rains, which did | a vast amount of good to the pas- < tures. I | Settlers about here are curious to know when the reserves at Nieaha I will be balloted for. « On Monday a young man, employed at Mr Popplewell's mill, at Kakariki, met with a nasty accident through a log rolling on him. He was promptly ramoved to the Pahiatua Hospital, where he is receiving every attention. The seventh anniversary of the opening of the Public Hall will be celebrated on February 22nd with a grand plain and fancy dress ball. . Mr C. Alberthsen, who has been engaged at sawmilling at Nireaha for a'considerable time, intends to remove his mi 11 and plant on to Mr Keene's section at Putara, and Mr Schorman has leased his bush to a Palmerston North firm of sawmillers. In that particular valley there is some splendid milling rimu, and it is estimated that the mills will be engaged there -for at , least ten years. I hear that a movement is on foot to close the Kakariki School, on account of the low attendance, and if this is done a brake will convey the children to the Hukanui School. Arrangements are being made to hold a picnic in connection with the Kakariki day and Sunday schools at an early date. On the 20th of this month the local cheese factory paid out about £BSO.
