EKETAHUNA.
♦ (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wednesday. A meeting of the Eketahuna Mounted Rifles was held last night. Lieutenant E. Page occupied the chair. It was decided to hold the sports meeting on Thursday, March 28th. A mounted parade of the corps will probably be held on the same day. Messrs E. Jackson and A. Boyes were appointed secretaries and the following were added to the commitee. The officers of the corps, and Sergt.-Major J. Prendeville, Q.M.S. Farmer, Sergts. Greathead and Fauvel, Corporals Wise, Benning and Doyle, Troopers A. Jackson and Cave and the Secretaries. A large and attractive programme was submitted and approved. The Woodville Tennis Club are sending a team to meet a team from the local club on Saturday next. A good game is anticipated. On the following Thursday it has been arranged for a team of players from the Masterton Club to visit Eketahuna and play the local team. Mr H. McAlister, employed at Gardiner's mill, Atea, met with a serious accident yesterday. He was engaged in removing logs with a jack, when one of them slipped and crushed his hand, inflicting a nasty wound. The injured man was attended by Dr. Bartlett of Eketahuna. Bandsman E. McLean, who is severing his connection with the Eketahuna Band, was the recipient, last evening,' of. a handsome case of pipes from his fellow-bandsmen. In making the presentation Mr J. Burfoot spoke in eulogistic terms of the services rendered to the Band by Mr McLean, who is leaving to take up his residence in Invercargill. >
