CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 22. The cricket match, Canterbury v. Wellington, was concluded on Lancaster Park, to-day. The home team won by five wickets. The weather was fine, and the ground in good order, but the light was troublesome to the batsmen at the start. The Wellington batting broke down badly, to-day, the last five wickets in the second innings falling for 31. Ollivier bowled capitally, taking four of the five wickets for 20. He was supported by good fielding. Canterbury secured the 110 required to win in an hour and fifty minutes. The scoring was slow until the last twenty minutes, when Lawrence and Bennett hit freely. The visitors' fielding was good. Upham bowled steadily. Scores : Wellington. —First innings, 131. Second innings: Cobcroft 47, Collins 1, Mahoney (not out) 63, Hawthorne 0, Beechey 9, Tucker 6, Laws 0, Blacklock 8, McDermid 1, Upham ; 9, Hales 1, extras 9; total, 154. Canterbury. —First innings, 176. Second innings: Patrick 6, Anthony 23, Ollivier 26, Williams 0, Ridley 12, Lawrence (not out) 26, Bennett (not out) 10, extras 7; total for 5 wickets, 110. M.C.C. v. MANAWATU. 1 PALMERSTON N., Jan. 22. The cricket match, M.C.C. v. Manawatu, was commenced in ideal weather. The wicket was in excellent order. Manawatu, playing 13 men, won the toss, and made 123. M.C.C. had lost seven wickets for 165 when stumps were . drawn at 6 t o'clock. Goldspring and Hewitt opened to May. In the fourth over Goldspring had a narrow escape, the wicket-keeper failing to hold the ball. The scoring was slow at first, both bowlers bumping considerably. After twenty minutes'play 12 was registered. May bowled from the commencement for the slips, having 6 of the team located accordingly. Hewitt's bails were dislodged for 8. Jounnax replaced Hewitt, and a pretty cut by Goldspring added four, but in attempting to run after'returning a soft ball, which passed over May's head, he was smartly run out. Skelley followed. Good fielding by the visitors gave Jounnax (trouble in placing the ball. The score reached 30 for an hour's play. A ' change of bowling took place, Simpson - Hayward taking May's place. Skelley was bowled with the first underhand ball. Barraud was next, and added 35 to his credit. Jounnax was clean bowled by Branston, who had taken Hayward's place. Mason succeeded Jounnax. Barraud was stumped by Tuf" nell. Coyne joined Mason, both playing a safe game, and the score soon reached 96. Mason was neatly caught by De Trafford. J. Skelley joined Coyne, and the century was soon reached. The innings finally closed tor 123. The M.C.C. started badly, losing four wickets for 18. De Trafford and Douglas batted first, Bartlett bowling for Manawatu. Douglas was bowled by Bartlett without scoring. Curwen joined De Trafford, whose wicket fell at the second ball, the score being two byes. Curwen's career was short. SimpsonHay ward and Williams brought the Score up to 59.
