By Telegraph—Press Association. CAMBRIDGE, January 15. There has «been an unprecedented rainfall during the last two days. The Waikato River is higher than for the last thirty years and is still rising. Immense damage has been done to the grain crops. HAMILTON, January 15. Heavy rains are falling, and the Waikato and other rivers are in high flood. Several householders on lowlying land had to remove. The pumping station in connection with the town water supply is flooded, and a serious shortage of water is feared. Telegraphic communication with country districts is interrupted. Very serious damage has been done to the crops. The flood is the heaviest since 1873. TAURANGA, January 15. The Pongakawa Bridge has been carried away, and the Kaitemoko Bridge is afloat. There has been continuous rain for the last eight days. 1 All the crops are lost. It is still raining, and the mails are unable to get through. It is expected that the damage to country roads will be considerable. • WELLINGTON, January 15. Rain fell steadily in the city all day to-day, but [ceased in the evening. The downfall has been welcome in the suburbs where a shortage of water was very pronounced. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 15. Although the drought did not disastrously effect- the crops in Southland, where the oats [are really good, the jturnips above the average, and the potatoes excellent, the shower of mild warm rain to-day was welcomed all over the district and should ensure an abundant harvest.
