SOUTHLAND ITEMS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Jan. S. When an official -party were boarding the Warrimoo at the Bluff, today, the rope supporting - the gangway broke. Dr Torrance, Captain Raymond, and Detective Mcllveney were thrown back to the wharf. The two former were not hurt, but Detective Mcllveney sustained nasty cuts and bruises, and narrowly escaped being crushed by the gangway swinging round. The weather continues to be extremely hot, and the whole country 'is crying out for rain. Many crops j are suffering, but potatoes are looking exceedingly well.
